Issued in a limited edition of 15/60, this vibrant composition celebrates the culture and traditions of Bahia through stylized dancing figures dressed in colorful patterned garments beneath tropical foliage. Rich greens, blues, reds, blacks, and whites combine to create a bold modernist composition inspired by Brazilian folk traditions and the energy of festive gatherings.

Hand-printed from carved woodblocks, the work displays the distinctive texture and character associated with traditional xilogravura (woodcut) printing. The print is hand titled, signed, dated, and numbered in pencil along the lower margin.

A wonderful example of late 20th-century Brazilian printmaking that would make an excellent addition to collections of Latin American art, modern prints, or colorful contemporary interiors.

Hannah Brandt (1923–2020) was a prominent German-born Brazilian printmaker, painter, and draughtswoman best known for her masterful color woodcuts (xilogravuras). Born in Essen, Germany, Brandt and her family fled the Nazi regime and immigrated to Brazil in 1935, eventually settling in São Paulo, where she became a naturalized Brazilian citizen.

Brandt began her formal artistic training in the 1950s, studying commercial art and illustration before discovering her passion for woodcut printmaking under the guidance of renowned Brazilian artists Lívio Abramo and Maria Bonomi. She later became a founding member of the Núcleo de Gravadores de São Paulo (NUGRASP), an influential collective dedicated to advancing contemporary printmaking in Brazil.

Her work earned widespread recognition throughout Brazil and abroad, including the prestigious Itamaraty Award at the 12th São Paulo Biennial in 1973. Today, her prints are represented in museum collections and continue to be sought after by collectors of Brazilian modernism and Latin American printmaking.
