A rare and scholarly first edition monograph on American modernist icon Georgia O'Keeffe, authored by Sasha M. Newman and published by The Phillips Collection (Washington, D.C.) in 1985. This softcover volume is a scholarly art historical study commissioned by the renowned museum and published to provide a focused study on Georgia O'Keeffe. It is a significant early contribution to O'Keeffe studies predating their major 2009 retrospective.
Georgia O'Keefe, (1887-1986) was one of the most celebrated abstract painters of the 20th Century. She innovatively fused abstraction and representation in paintings, works on paper, and sculptures to express an emotional "equivalent" for the world around her.
The Phillips Collection is one of a series of monographs on the arts produced in cooperation with the Artists Limited Edition, 1985. Contains 32 pages.
