Handcrafted by the historic factory Henriot Quimper in the Brittany region of France, these distinctive cone-shaped vessels date to the 1940s to 1950s mid-century era—a period confirmed by the clean script style of the "Henriot Quimper France" maker's mark and the shape inventory number 75 hand-painted on the back. While individual Quimper pieces are widely collected, a true matching pair displaying the traditional "Breton Folk Couple" motif, with the man playing a biniou flute on one and the woman with her distaff spinner on the other, is a notable rarity. Historically and practically, these pockets were designed to be mounted flush against a wall using the integrated hanging holes to hold fresh water, cut seasonal flowers, or dried botanicals, infusing old-world provincial character into a cozy entryway, breakfast nook, or powder room gallery wall. The reverse sides feature clean, distinct maker's marks and clear inventory numbers, with unglazed mounting surfaces around the integrated keyhole hanging slots showing minimal, age-appropriate shelf wear. The interior glaze ends below the bottom lip, and there are no chips, cracks, or hairline fractures. They are especially clean along the delicate top rims or tapered bases. To preserve them as lasting decorative vases and ensure long-term durability, when holding live botanicals, it’s recommended to use a removable plastic liner or a clear internal sealer spray when filling them with standing water for long periods, protecting the integrity of the porous earthenware clay base beneath the glaze. less
