An exceptional set of eight dining chairs designed by Karl Erik Ekselius and produced by J.O. Carlsson of Vetlanda, Sweden. Complete sets of this scale are rarely found intact, particularly outside Scandinavia, making this a distinctive opportunity for collectors seeking to furnish a full dining table with matched, period-correct seating.
Each chair pairs sculptural teak frames with hand-caned backs, a combination that speaks to the Swedish tradition of marrying structural clarity with tactile warmth. The frames trace gentle bows and subtle angles throughout the crest rail, back stiles, and legs, lending the chairs an understated sculptural quality without straying into ornament. Six decades of aging have brought the teak to a rich, red orange patina, a hue achieved only through time and impossible to replicate through refinishing.
The woven cane backs have held up remarkably well and carry a soft honey tone consistent with their age. Roughly half the chairs show small, professional repairs to the cane, most visible only on close inspection from the rear. Seats have been thoughtfully reupholstered in high quality black vinyl that closely matches the chairs' original look, preserving the design intent while ensuring the set is ready for daily use.
A refined example of Swedish caned seating from a manufacturer whose work remains underrepresented in the American market, offered as a complete set of eight.
This listing is for 8 chairs. The dining table pictured is sold separately. Inquire if interested.
