An exceptionally elegant and increasingly rare Art Deco daybed attributed to the celebrated Czech designer Jindřich Halabala and produced by UP Závody in Czechoslovakia during the 1930s. The sculptural silhouette, beautifully curved side panels and refined proportions are characteristic of Halabala's iconic Art Deco designs from this period. Comparable examples are widely attributed to Halabala and UP Závody in the design market. Crafted in warm walnut with beautifully figured veneer, this daybed displays everything that makes Czech Art Deco furniture so desirable: flowing architectural lines, balanced proportions and understated elegance. Unlike many surviving examples that have been completely restored or refinished, this piece remains in beautiful original vintage condition. The walnut has developed a rich, warm patina over nearly ninety years and shows only light signs of age appropriate for its period. The daybed retains its original floral upholstery, which remains clean and usable. For collectors who appreciate originality it represents an authentic period feature, while interior designers will recognize it as an ideal candidate for reupholstery in a premium fabric such as bouclé, alpaca, mohair, linen or velvet.
