Rare early example from the renowned Jens Risom — this Model 37 sofa dates to the 1940s and exemplifies the designer's hallmark Scandinavian-meets-American modernist sensibility. The sofa features a gently reclined backrest accented by a row of five button-tufted details along the upper back, low sculpted paddle arms, and a single continuous bench seat. The frame is crafted in dark walnut with characteristically angular, splayed legs joined by a stretcher rail along the base. Upholstered in a heathered oatmeal woven wool fabric in warm beige tones.
Jens Risom (1916–2016) was a pioneering figure of mid-century Scandinavian design in America, celebrated for his elegant, functional furniture that bridged Danish craftsmanship with American modernism. His early 1940s pieces — produced in limited quantities — are among the most collectible of the era. Unmarked.
