An impressive antique Mediterranean terracotta olive jar dating from the late 19th to the early 20th century. Hand-thrown in coarse earthenware, this substantial vessel features an elegant elongated ovoid form with a gently flared rolled rim and subtle incised wavy decoration around the shoulder, demonstrating its handmade origins.
The jar has developed a beautifully authentic surface over many decades, displaying rich terracotta tones alongside charcoal firing marks, mineral deposits and natural weathering. The heavily worn rim, softly textured body and varied patina give the vessel exceptional character, making it equally suited to rustic farmhouse interiors, Belgian-inspired homes or contemporary spaces seeking natural organic forms.
Its generous proportions make it a striking floor-standing decorative object, whether displayed empty as a sculptural piece or filled with dried grasses, olive branches or seasonal foliage.
