Francisco Zuniga (1912-1998) was a celebrated Costa Rican-born Mexican artist renowned for his powerful depictions of Indigenous women through sculpture, painting, and drawing. Widely regarded as one of Latin America's most important 20th-century artists, Zuniga received Mexico's highest artistic honor, the Premio Nacional de Artes, in 1984. His work is held in major institutions including the Museum of Modern Art in Mexico City, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Hirshhorn Museum. He was also a longtime faculty member at the prestigious La Esmeralda art school in Mexico. Zuniga's expressive, timeless forms earned him international acclaim and enduring influence. See less
