Found in Pompeii in 1760 by the efforts of Charles III. Archaic form of Diame/ Artemis.
The marble statue discovered in Pompeii is probably a replica of the Greek statue of Artemis from Sicily. The original marble after the work of Praxiteles, 3rd century BC, from Pompeii, led to this 19th-century bronze. Artemis /Diana sculpted in the archaic style with a long tunic and flowing folds that end in zigzag borders, the hair in long tresses freely falling to the shoulders, and the great detail in the feet and hands. A terrific vision of Diana, which was a very old model even to the Romans.
The measurements are 24.5," and the base is 5.25" by 11.75"
