Designed by the legendary Andries Dirk Copier (1901–1991) for Glasfabriek Leerdam in 1936, this particular piece represents the pinnacle of post-war 1950s production. It features a rich, suspended emerald green "teardrop" core enveloped by an incredibly thick, heavy clear crystal jacket. The vase is a flawless example of the historical bullicante (controlled bubble) technique, traditionally referred to in the Netherlands as the spijker (nail) method. A perfectly spaced, geometric matrix of trapped air bubbles precisely contours the interior green core. The heavy base is expertly ground down and flat-polished to a glass-smooth finish, ensuring absolute stability.
This substantial 4-inch crystal sphere seamlessly bridges form and function. It features a 1/2-inch top opening, making it ideal for displaying a singular, minimalist botanical stem as a solifleur bud vase, or for securing a slim taper/chime candle as a weighted, architectural candle holder.
