Footed French barbotine majolica charger with raised, hand-painted decoration depicting Joan of Arc mounted on a white horse in armor, carrying a lance and banner inscribed "Jésus Maria." A ribbon cartouche below reads "En Avant!" The scalloped rim alternates floral sprays with medallion cartouches inscribed "Honneur" and "Patrie," set against a textured lattice ground.
Deep bottle-green glaze with expected craquelure throughout. Impressed mold number "221" to the underside.
Wire hoop already installed on back side for hanging (see pictures).
Likely produced in late 1800s to early 1900s, from the annexation of Alsace-Lorraine to its return in 1920 when Joan of Arc was heavily used as a national symbol.
Sourced in Dinard, Brittany, France.
