The nearly black animal is set against a vivid yellow ground, with coral-red blooms and deep green leaves giving the composition its strong graphic presence. It has the glamorous, theatrical quality associated with mid-century Hollywood interiors and works especially well as a large statement painting.

Billy Seay (1922–2012) began his career as a child actor before working as an artist and decorator. He later joined Sascha Brastoff’s studio and produced original designs for the Turner Print Company, including tropical birds and landscapes that became widely reproduced decorative prints. This is an original signed work, not a print.

Presented in its original simple black frame under glass.

There is an approximately four-inch surface scratch, shown in the photographs. The frame has scattered scuffing. Neither detracts greatly from the overall impact of the work.
