Refined, architectural and full of poetic detail, this piece brings together several elements strongly associated with Ponti’s decorative language: lightness of structure, expressive geometry, delicate ornamental accents and a graceful balance between functionality and sculpture. The mirror has a beautifully elongated oval shape, held within a slender curved brass frame with a warm aged bronze tone. The line of the frame rises gently around the glass, almost like a drawing in space, giving the object an airy and sophisticated presence. It is not simply a tabletop mirror, but a small architectural object conceived with great elegance and proportion. The front is particularly striking. Two curved side elements embrace the oval mirror and are enriched by small gilt floral medallions, placed like precious decorative seals. These rosette details add a refined, almost jewel-like accent to the composition, contrasting beautifully with the darker patina of the frame. Their ornamental character, combined with the slender upward movement of the supports, gives the piece a distinctly Ponti-like sensibility. The mirror rests on four delicate splayed legs, each ending in a small spherical foot. This detail is especially charming: the thin tapered legs create a sense of lightness, while the rounded ball feet add a playful and elegant note. Seen from the front, the structure appears poised and balanced; seen from the side, the legs reveal a dynamic architectural construction, almost like a miniature easel. The back is equally interesting and beautifully constructed. The rear panel shows age, patina and period wear, with the original support structure attached to the reverse. The tripod-like back support, composed of thin brass rods with spherical terminals, allows the mirror to stand freely on a vanity, dressing table, console or desk. When viewed from behind or when closed, the object retains a strong sculptural quality, with its exposed construction becoming part of its charm. The brass frame has a rich natural patina, with oxidation, tonal variation and light surface marks consistent with age. These signs do not detract from the piece; rather, they enhance its authenticity and underline its vintage character. The mirror glass itself is elegant and refined, with the thin oval edge giving the piece an exceptionally graceful profile. A rare and highly decorative Italian vanity mirror, attributed to Gio Ponti, ideal for collectors of 1950s Italian design. Its scale and elegance make it perfect for a dressing table, bedroom, bathroom console, entrance table or curated interior where a small but important design object can become a focal point. See less
