As with gambone’s best work, this piece is not conceived as a serial object, but as a unique ceramic composition: shaped, glazed and painted by hand, with a strong sense of balance between form, surface and material depth. The vase has a compact, architectural silhouette with softly rounded square proportions and a broad flared mouth. Its form is essential and almost archaic, yet full of subtle movement: the swollen body, slightly compressed base and wide upper rim give the piece a grounded but elegant presence. It is a small sculpture as much as a functional vessel. The ceramic quality is exceptional. The surface is richly tactile, with glazes layered in deep earthy tones. A warm sandy-brown body is contrasted by a soft matte black upper section, creating a powerful horizontal rhythm around the form. Across this darker band, mineral-like green and turquoise glazes flow downward in irregular drips, almost like oxidized copper, moss, or natural deposits formed over time. The beauty of the piece lies precisely in this controlled spontaneity. The glazes do not appear merely applied; they seem to have reacted with the clay, creating depth, texture and atmospheric variation. Close up, the surface reveals a dense, granular quality, with subtle speckling, tonal changes and soft transitions between black, ochre, beige, green and blue-green. Every side is different, making the vase continuously engaging from every angle. The wide cream-toned rim offers a beautiful counterpoint to the darker body. Its lighter glaze softens the composition and frames the opening with quiet elegance. The contrast between the refined upper edge and the more painterly, volcanic surface below gives the work a strong visual identity, perfectly in keeping with bruno gambone’s poetic and experimental approach to ceramics. The underside is signed “gambone italy,” confirming its origin.
