This impressive sculptural vase displays a sophisticated multi-layered construction consisting of a deep cobalt blue core surrounded by a rich amber body with a controlled craquelé (frosted glass) effect, encapsulated beneath a clear outer layer. The result is extraordinary depth and constantly changing reflections depending on the light.
Unlike standard decorative Murano production, this piece is extremely heavy and thick-walled, weighing 1,735 kg (3.82 lbs) with walls approximately 15–18 mm (0.6–0.7 in) thick.
The polished base of the pontil, the visible air bubbles within the glass mass, the subtle tool marks inside the neck and the complex multi-layered construction all point to authentic hand-blown Murano craftsmanship.
Although there is no factory signature, the quality of workmanship and construction place this vase among the high-quality Murano studio productions of the late mid-century. The work shows similarities to the experimental Murano workshops that were active during the 1960s and 1970s, occasionally associated with the artistic production of houses such as Barbini, V. Nason, and other independent Murano kilns, although no definitive attribution is claimed.
