Antique late 19th-century Doulton Lambeth Aesthetic Movement salt-glazed stoneware vase, by Elizabeth Atkins, dated 1883,
Created during the English Aesthetic Movement, this lovely vase is decorated with intricate hand-carved, incised geometric patterns, floral rosettes, and very precise tube-lined bead-work accents.
Made of high-quality, salt-glazed British stoneware finished with traditional earthy slips, including deep blues, olive-greens, and warm brown ochre tones. Produced at the Doulton Lambeth pottery factory in London, England, where highly skilled female artists from the Lambeth School of Art personally decorated and incised each piece with their custom monogram
This particular vase is by Elizabeth Atkins, a highly talented Doulton Lambeth artist who worked at the pottery studio from 1876 to 1899. The vase is stamped with the date of 1883 and with the Doulton Lambeth Rosette Stamp: This is the early circular impressed Doulton Lambeth factory mark used during the 1880s. The Monogram (EA): Elizabeth Atkins's signature. While she is celebrated for her gorgeous pate-sur-pâte work, she frequently decorated exquisite Aesthetic Movement stoneware featuring applied rosettes and textured slipway borders just like this vase.
The was a great tradition of Arts and Crafts pottery at this time in London, with companies like: Doulton Lambeth, Martin Brothers, William de Morgan, many such items were retailed through Liberty & Co. of London. This vase is very much part that early Arts and Crafts Aesthetic Movement style and it is in excellent condition and ready to grace your space.
