Each chair back holds … Read more A striking pair of vintage Chinese armchairs, hand carved in solid rosewood with exceptional detail throughout. Each chair back holds a natural Dali marble panel in a shaped frame; the stone’s veining reads like a landscape painting, one in grey and black, the other in warm brown, so no two are alike. A carved foo dog crowns each crest, with pierced dragon fretwork across the back rail and cloud scroll carving on the aprons and shoulders.

The seats are solid wood with a rich red tone that glows in direct light. Matching cream silk brocade cushions are included. Joinery is traditional, and the original maker’s assembly marks are still visible in ink on the underside.

Condition: excellent vintage condition with only light wear consistent with age. Cushions show minor discoloration on one side. Photographed in natural light and with flash; the seat panels are a deep red rosewood that reads brighter under flash.
