The Legacy of the Master
This Handmade Ceramic Grand Jar is not just a vase; it is a revival of the Golden Age of Ottoman ceramics. Named the “Şah” (Shah) jar due to its imposing size, it wears the artistic signature of Baba Nakkas, the master artist who defined the Early Iznik style.
The Baba Nakkas Style Before the tulips and carnations became popular, the Ottoman court favored a more stylized, graphic aesthetic. This jar reflects that era perfectly. It is adorned with “Hatayi” (stylized lotus/peony) flowers and “Rumi” (interlaced arabesque) scrolls. These motifs do not imitate nature directly but transform it into a divine geometry.
A Rhythm of Blue The design is divided into vertical panels that alternate between positive and negative space—blue on white, and white on blue. This technique requires masterful precision and creates a dynamic texture that seems to move as you walk around the jar.
Product Specifications:
Dimensions: 60 cm (H)
