Ripley & Co EAPG Mascotte Ruby Stain Jar Dated 1873 Early American Pattern Glass
This listing is for an authentic antique EAPG ruby‑stained Mascotte pattern apothecary jar, manufactured by Ripley & Co. and later continued by U.S. Glass. The jar is patented May 20, 1873, as clearly marked on the base. This is not a reproduction—it is a true 19th‑century piece with the correct cranberry/dark‑pink stain typical of original production.
Historical & Maker Details
Pattern: Mascotte (also spelled Mascote)
Glass Type: EAPG – Early American Pattern Glass
Stain: Original cranberry/dark pink (not modern deep ruby)
Manufacturer: Ripley & Co.
Later Production: U.S. Glass
Production Years: 1873 and 1888–circa 1895
Reference: Heacock’s Ruby Stained Victorian Pattern Glass, Book No. 7
Design: Stackable lip on the bottom
These jars were originally made as stackable apothecary jars, which is why the base has a slight lip. They are highly collectible, especially in original stain and non‑reproduction form.
Authenticity: Old, uncleaned stain and correct cranberry tone confirm non‑reproduction status
