Article: ceramic stoneware vase designer and producer: richard uhlemeyer (born october 3, 1900 in göttingen, november 4, 1954, according to other information november 7, 1954, in hannover) was a german craftsman, entrepreneur and from 1949-1954 first president of the central association of german crafts (zdh) decade: 1940s this original vintage studio pottery object was designed by richard uhlemeyer and produced in his own studio in the 1940s in hannover in germany. It is made of solid very heavy stoneware pottery and has a very unique red brown green coloration and structure. The bottom is marked with typical uhlemeyer producer signature of horse heads and a label sticker. A very collectible and very rare item of the uhlemeyer collection. The object has a very sculptural form and nice size of 24cm in height. Straightforward and minimalistic design of the 1940s design era. This item is a wonderful addition to every modern home. Dimensions: height 24 cm diameter 14 cm. Condition: this item is in a very good vintage condition with patina. Vita richard uhlemeyer: richard uhlemeyer visited the kunstgewerbeschule- und handwerkerschule hannover in the 1920s and studied u. A. At ludwig vierthaler sculpture. After completing his studies, he worked as a freelance artist. In 1930 he founded a wholesale trade in handicraft products and five years later he founded a pottery shop, which gained notoriety under the name kunsthandwerk richard uhlemeyer. Through his entrepreneurial and organizational skills, he managed to occupy an important position within hanoverian and german trade policy. In 1945 he was elected president of the chamber of crafts hannover and four years later became the first president of the zdh. During his tenure, he campaigned for the needs of the middle-class economy and spoke out against a further preference of the industry over the craft. Shortly after his re-election as president uhlemeyer died in 1954 as a result of a heartbeat. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
