This is a wonderful original etching with aquatint by listed Belgian-American artist Annette Robyns (1926-2008). Robyns studied under renowned Modernist Fernand Léger in Paris before establishing herself as an artist, printmaker, gallery owner, and educator in Los Angeles. Her work combines Modernist abstraction with organic forms and richly textured surfaces.
Titled "Syrinx," this dynamic composition features sweeping abstract forms layered over a beautifully worked aquatint ground that creates remarkable depth and tonal variation. The rich blacks and subtle grays showcase the expressive possibilities of the intaglio process, while the bold abstract design reflects Robyns' distinctive Modernist aesthetic.
This is an original etching with aquatint, pencil titled, signed, and numbered 5/35 in the lower margin.
