A beautiful 19th-century Tibetan thangka painting depicting Green Tara, one of the most revered female figures in Tibetan Buddhism and a bodhisattva associated with compassion, protection, and enlightened activity.
Green Tara is prominently seated at the center of the composition, distinguished by her characteristic green complexion and surrounded by lotus blossoms, celestial clouds, and an elaborate mandorla. An array of Buddhist deities and sacred figures appears above and below her, arranged within a richly detailed devotional composition.
Painted in mineral-rich tones of green, red, blue, ochre, and cream on cotton, the thangka displays the intricate iconography and finely rendered details characteristic of Tibetan Buddhist devotional painting. The work is apparently unsigned and is presented in a gilt frame.
A wonderful example of 19th-century Tibetan Buddhist art, equally compelling as a devotional object, collectible work of Asian art, or distinctive decorative piece.
