A vintage french art deco pine tambour room divider attributed to jomain baumann for baumann, produced in france during the mid-20th century. This xl folding screen, also known as a french paravent, is made from narrow stained pine slats with a flexible tambour construction, creating a sculptural room divider with a warm dark patina, softly undulating silhouette and strong decorative presence.

the screen has a beautifully architectural presence, with a tall vertical rhythm created by the narrow pine slats and a softly waved upper edge that gives the piece its distinctive art deco character. The darker patina gives the wood depth and richness, while the flexible construction allows the screen to stand in a sculptural curved form. Its scale makes it especially suitable as a strong decorative object, spatial divider or backdrop within a refined interior.
jomain baumann’s tambour room dividers are closely associated with french art deco and early to mid-20th-century decorative interiors. These folding screens are described as pine slat screens made by baumann, baumann & melun or baumann & fils, often dated between the 1930s and 1950s. The construction typically uses narrow pine slats connected with an internal wire system, allowing the screen to curve, fold or extend into different positions.
condition
good vintage condition with signs of age and use consistent with its period. The pine shows a rich aged patina, surface scratches, small marks, scuffs, darker areas, finish wear and age-related traces throughout. Some visible scratches and marks are present on the slats, including near the lower sections and upper edges. One end side has a few stiffer slats and is not able to move both ways on those sections. The screen remains structurally solid and presents beautifully. This piece has an attribution mark,
