Antique Sheraton Mahogany Flip-Top Games Table, Baltimore, Circa 1810s
A handsome Sheraton games table from Baltimore, dating to the 1810s. The D-shaped top flips and swivels open on a swing leg to reveal a full oval playing surface, while closing flat into a demilune console. Constructed with a dovetailed frame, the table stands on four turned and reeded legs that taper to a ring-turned foot — classic Baltimore Federal-era detailing.
The mahogany has developed a deep, rich patina over the last two centuries, with honest wear consistent with age and use. Note: one hinge shows old damage from a prior break, with a replaced patch (see photos) — this does not affect the table's function, as the swing leg mechanism opens and closes smoothly.
A versatile piece — use closed as an elegant entry or hall table, or open it up for cards, backgammon, or a small dining surface.
