Resting on tall, curved legs, the form appears balanced and understated thanks to its narrow base and clearly structured drawer fronts. Historical Context: The chest of drawers on tall, curved legs dates back to 18th-century French furniture forms, when lighter and more mobile furniture gained popularity under Louis XV. Such delicate chests of drawers – known in French as *commode sauteuse* – served as storage and shelving in living rooms and bedrooms and could be flexibly positioned due to their small size. The curved design language of the Rococo remained popular for centuries and was frequently reproduced in France during the 20th century. Features: Tall, curved legs that clearly raise the body from the floor (commode sauteuse design). Visible dovetail joints on the drawers, recognizable by the lateral dovetail joints. Design: The design follows the Louis XV style with curved legs, a gently undulating front, and a curved frame. The lines are consistently curved without becoming whimsical; the division into two smaller upper drawers and one wide lower drawer remains clearly discernible. Bronze-colored handles in the Rococo style and the profiled side panels add understated accents that complement the overall calm form. Function: Originally used as storage and shelving in living rooms and bedrooms, this chest of drawers is equally suitable today as a side table, for hallways and entryways, or as a surface next to seating. Dimensions: Height 77 cm × Width 72 cm × Depth 42 cm. Material and Condition: Solid wood with a cherry-colored finish; bronze-look handles. Good, well-maintained overall condition with a few age-related and minor signs of wear on the surface. The drawers glide smoothly, and the chest is stable on its curved legs. Inspected, cleaned, treated appropriately, structurally checked, and functionally sound by Kastellan. The decoration shown in the photos (vase, glass dome on a wooden stand) is for illustrative purposes only and is not included in the offer. See less
