Art glass sculpture depicting a parrot (specifically a parakeet or budgie) perched on a branch. The base and the thick branch are crafted from clear glass using the refined "sommerso" technique, embellished with hot-applied and hand-shaped leaves. The bird's body is composed of three varieties of opaline glass: cadmium yellow for the body, light blue for the wings, and intense black for the beak, eyes, and the tip of the tail. The color transition from the yellow glass body that fades to pale blue glass wings is exquisitely crafted, and this transition is beautifully highlighted by a thin green line that separates the body from the wings, fading to a pale blue at eye level. Only the greatest glassmakers can achieve effects of this artistic quality, truly sensational. I invite you to carefully examine the photos to notice this crucial detail, as well as the shading on the head, which constantly transitions from yellow to light blue, as if the parrot had been airbrushed. We're talking glass-on-glass here, astonishing! The sculpture is attached to the branch with a square metal pin, which fits perfectly into a special metal-covered insert on the branch; this technical detail reflects the typical execution standards of the 1930s and 1940s. The parrot's pose is extremely expressive and dynamic, enhanced by the weight and excellent quality of the glass used. Despite the lack of a signature, the work's excellent craftsmanship allows us to associate it with the work of the great 20th-century Murano masters, such as Archimede Seguso, Livio Seguso, Pino Signoretto, or Alfredo Barbini. Among these, the most likely attribution, in our opinion, is to Archimede Seguso. The master often signed his works with an adhesive seal, which, as often happens with vintage pieces, may have been lost over time. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
