Louis Katona & Daum
A pair of French art deco mushroom lamps, crafted circa 1925, in wrought iron by Louis Katona (1850-1933). Together with Edgar Brandt Raymond Subes Paul Kiss and a few others
Katona was a leading French Art Deco ferronniers d'Art (master blacksmith) during the interwar period, spearheading the development of the Art Deco style in wrought iron
Since Katona operated a much smaller workshop than Brandt or Subes, authentic Katona lamp bases are a rare find.
The bases, signed 'L. Katona France,' hold oversized Daum conical shades in acid-etched, hand-blown amber coloured glass. Both shades are signed 'Daum Nancy France' and measure 7.64" (19,4 cm) in diameter. One base is slightly shorter than the other. The total heights are 15.47" (39,3 cm) and 15.79" (40,1 cm). They are in excellent condition. I rewired the pair with American candelabra base sockets and US 2-prong plugs.
