Louis Katona & Daum
A wonderful very rare pair of French 1925 art deco lamps in wrought iron by Louis Katona (1850-1933). Together with Edgar Brandt Raymond Subes Paul Kiss and a few others Katona was one of the main ferronniers d'Art during the interbellum in France leading in the development of the art déco style in forged iron. Not having such a large forge as Brandt or Subes, with a lot less employees, Katona lamp bases are a hard find.
The L. Katona France signed bases hold oversized Daum shades in acid-engraved hand blown coloured glass. Both shades are signed Daum Nancy France. They have a diameter of 19,4 cm (7,64"). One base is a little shorter than the other one. The lamps have a height of 39,3 and 40,1 cm (15,47"and 15,79"). They are in excellent condition. I rewired the pair with American candelabra base sockets and US 2-prong plugs.
