The Ekoi people also referred to as Ejagham, are an ethnic group living in the far southeast of Nigeria and extending eastward into Cameroon's southwest region. The Ekoi have a close relationship with neighboring groups, including the Efik, Annang, Ibibio, and Igbo people in southeastern Nigeria. They are renowned for their Ekpe headdresses and use Nsibidi text, which they originally created, as part of their traditions.
It is associated with the Ngbe, a men's society that uses distinctive head crests and ritual equipment for community regulation and initiation. Originally a warrior's society, Ngbe now engages in social and political activities, celebrating life events and honoring tradition through ceremonial items like head crests.
