The Basotho of South Africa and neighboring regions developed distinctive basketry and textile techniques using natural fibers, creating functional objects that also carry cultural significance and identity.
This hat reflects that heritage through its woven construction and geometric texture, embodying the craftsmanship passed down through generations. Everything in this collection was in their home for more than thirty years. Africa Direct recently bought the collection; at 95, Margie wants to share the things she has loved so much.
