Venetian school, first half of the 18th century. This well-crafted landscape is similar to the pictorial style of Bartolomeo Pedon (1665-1732), one of the most interesting landscape painters of the Venetian Baroque period. Rich in vegetation, the landscape centers on a path that leads from the woods toward the wide valley, where scattered farmhouses and a river can be seen in the distance; the landscape fades into blue tones that blend with the sky. Several figures move along the path in the foreground, a woman with a jug on her head (a small basin of water can be glimpsed on the left) conversing with a shepherdess sitting resting, while her sheep graze nearby, and other shepherds pass by on the path. The details of the vegetation are accurate and well-rendered, as are those of the buildings. The painting is presented in a contemporary wooden frame, regilded in the early 1900s. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
