A true piece of dazzling ceramic art offers an imaginative contemporary Mid-Century Modern Art-Deco drip-glaze aesthetics transformed by a handcrafted, striking, exceptionally complex multi-tone metallic palette with pale light green tones surrounding the base. The vessel is enveloped within its deep, umber-brown-glazed rim and trimmed with an organically twisted split handle, seamlessly flowing into a complex, cascading Volcanic arm formed by the intense heat of the kiln firing. A heavy, dark glaze melting and flowing over the pale celadon-green base reveals a dense, bubbly, frothy curtain of cascading rich, earthy textures and color. Long’s masterful kiln-fired technique yields an incredibly high-gloss, fluid finish reminiscent of vintage pre-war European art pottery, successfully bridging into the 21st-century studio craft from the Southern-most, timeless California native mid-century decor. This ceramic speaks to its perfectly sophisticated styling as a sculptural Mid-Century Modern statement for Contemporary Craft, Arts & Crafts, or Eclectic and Ethnic interior design settings. The vase is excellent and completely free of structural cracks, any fractures, or glaze loss. The top-down view confirms that the wide 3” opened metallic black rim and its intricately twisted handle remain entirely intact, with no chips or repairs. The rich, multi-layered drip glaze, with its original high-gloss luster and reflective brilliance, spreads over the entire globular body. There’s no clouding or surface scuffs, or tiny, insignificant superficial glaze fleabites, often consistent with hand-thrown artisanal firing processes. less
