Published as plate 31 in alexandre m. Raymond's renowned folio *l'art islamique en orient – iie partie*, the sheet forms part of one of the most important early twentieth-century surveys of ottoman and islamic architecture in anatolia. The composition presents a richly ornamented architectural elevation framed by elegant marble columns and alternating stone arches. At its center appears a spectacular iznik tile panel featuring an elaborate floral composition dominated by a monumental vase motif from which stylized tulips, carnations, and scrolling foliage emerge. The intricate blue-and-turquoise palette exemplifies the artistic achievements of the classical ottoman period and reflects the refinement associated with the imperial workshops of istanbul. Commissioned during the reign of sultan murad iii, the mausoleum of selim ii was designed by the great imperial architect mimar sinan and remains among the masterpieces of sixteenth-century ottoman architecture. The decorative programs employed throughout the complex represent the height of iznik ceramic production, combining persian influences with a uniquely ottoman interpretation of floral ornament and geometry. Alexandre m. Raymond carefully documented these architectural details during his travels through turkey. His measured studies preserve decorative elements with exceptional precision and continue to serve as valuable references for historians, architects, and collectors. The harmonious blue-green coloration and balanced composition make this sheet equally compelling as a scholarly document and as a decorative work of art. This print is entirely original and dates from 1924. It is sold unframed. Any framed illustrations are shown for visual inspiration only. Condition: good original condition with age-related toning, light foxing, a horizontal center fold as issued, and minor handling wear consistent with age. The image remains clean, fresh, and highly attractive, with excellent preservation of the printed colours. Framing recommendations: this sheet displays beautifully with a wide ivory or warm stone-coloured museum mat and a dark walnut or ebonized frame inspired by ottoman interiors. A subtle gilt liner complements the blue iznik ornamentation. Museum glass is recommended for conservation and to enhance the delicate tonal variations.
