Raymond's celebrated publication l'art islamique en orient – iie partie, illustrating two alternative ottoman window designs combining geometric iron grilles with richly decorated ceramic tile surrounds. Issued as plate 48, this remarkable composition presents type a and type b, each demonstrating the sophisticated relationship between metalwork, geometry, landscape imagery, and floral ornament within ottoman decorative traditions. The left composition features a restrained hexagonal lattice superimposed over a tranquil waterscape, framed by delicate blue-and-white floral tiles. The right design employs a more complex system of intersecting circles and radiating geometry, creating an elegant interplay between mathematical order and natural scenery. The surrounding borders evoke the finest traditions of i̇znik ceramics, with scrolling arabesques, stylized flowers, and ornamental motifs that flourished throughout the ottoman empire. These architectural details illustrate how windows served not only as practical elements but also as vehicles for artistic expression and spiritual contemplation. Alexandre m. Raymond carefully documented these decorative fragments during his travels through turkey and the near east. His publications remain among the most important visual references for islamic and ottoman architectural ornament. The subtle palette of soft blues, pale greens, ivory, and muted gold gives the sheet exceptional decorative appeal and makes it particularly suitable for both traditional and contemporary interiors.
