Antique ottoman geometric door panels print, islamic woodwork designs, c. 1500, alexandre raymond, 1924 this original architectural plate illustrates three remarkable examples of ottoman geometric door panels dating to approximately 1500. Published as plate 30 in alexandre m. Raymond's celebrated folio *l'art islamique en orient – iie partie*, the work forms part of one of the most important early twentieth-century surveys of islamic architecture and decorative arts in anatolia. The composition presents carefully measured elevations executed at a scale of 1:10. The large central panel features an elaborate star-shaped composition radiating from an eight-pointed motif, while the two accompanying designs demonstrate alternative arrangements of interlaced polygons and angular strapwork. Together, they showcase the extraordinary mathematical precision and artistic sophistication of ottoman woodworking traditions. Rooted in earlier seljuk and persian precedents, these patterns evolved into a distinctly ottoman decorative language. Such geometric compositions adorned mosques, medreses, palaces, and private residences throughout anatolia, embodying principles of harmony, order, and spiritual unity. The designs reflect the close relationship between mathematics, craftsmanship, and faith within islamic artistic culture. Alexandre m. Raymond meticulously documented these ornamental fragments during his travels through turkey. His publications remain valuable references for architects, historians, collectors, and contemporary designers interested in islamic geometry and traditional ornament. The subtle palette of natural wood tones accented with soft green highlights lends the sheet both scholarly importance and decorative appeal. This print is entirely original and dates from 1924. It is sold unframed. Any framed illustrations are shown for visual inspiration only. Condition: good original condition with age-related toning, scattered foxing, and minor handling wear consistent with age. The image remains crisp and attractive with excellent preservation of the printed detail. Framing recommendations: a wide ivory museum mat combined with a dark walnut or ebonized frame complements the geometric designs beautifully. A discreet gilt liner may be added to echo traditional ottoman interiors. Museum glass is recommended for long-term preservation.
