Issued as plates 32–33 in alexandre m. Raymond's celebrated publication *l'art islamique en orient – iie partie*, the sheet belongs to one of the most important early twentieth-century surveys of islamic architecture and decorative arts in anatolia. The composition presents a monumental half-dome arrangement rendered at a scale of one metre to one-third scale, faithfully recording one of the finest surviving examples of classical ottoman tile decoration. The tympanum combines elegant arabic inscriptions with flowing arabesques, scrolling vines, and floral ornament executed in the celebrated turquoise, cobalt, and celadon palette associated with the golden age of iznik ceramics. Designed under the direction of the imperial architect mimar sinan, the mausoleum of sultan selim ii stands among the masterpieces of sixteenth-century ottoman architecture. The decorative programme reflects the artistic sophistication of the imperial workshops, where calligraphy, geometry, and floral motifs were united into harmonious compositions expressing both spiritual devotion and imperial grandeur. The arabic inscriptions occupy the central field, framed by exquisitely balanced vegetal ornament and bordered by alternating stone voussoirs that emphasize the architectural setting. The plate demonstrates the remarkable precision with which alexandre m. Raymond documented these monuments, preserving details that remain invaluable to historians, architects, restorers, and collectors today. Entirely original and dating from 1924, this print is sold unframed. Any framed illustrations shown elsewhere are provided solely for visual inspiration. Condition: good original condition with age-related toning, a central vertical fold as issued, light foxing, and minor handling wear consistent with age. The printed image remains fresh and attractive, with particularly well-preserved blue and turquoise colours. Framing recommendations: the broad horizontal format benefits from a wide ivory or warm stone-coloured museum mat and a dark walnut or ebonized frame with subtle gilt detailing inspired by ottoman interiors. Museum glass is strongly recommended to preserve the delicate tones and intricate calligraphic decoration.
