This beautiful antique Pima (Akimel O'odham) Native American coiled basket was handwoven in Arizona during the early twentieth century, circa 1900–1920. Measuring approximately 11.25 inches in diameter, it is an excellent display size and showcases the refined craftsmanship for which early Pima basketry is admired.
The basket is woven in the traditional single-bundle coiled technique with a counterclockwise weave and flat base, construction characteristics that are consistent with Pima basketry. Bold geometric motifs rendered in dark contrasting fibers stand out against the warm natural background, creating a balanced and visually striking composition.
Beautifully woven with a tight, even weave, the basket has acquired a rich honey-colored patina through more than a century of careful preservation. The subtle variations in color and texture reflect the use of natural materials and enhance its authentic character.
Today, antique Native American baskets are appreciated not only as important examples of Indigenous artistry but also as sculptural decorative objects. Whether displayed on a wall, placed on a tabletop, or incorporated into a curated collection of Southwestern or American folk art, this basket offers both historical significance and timeless design.
