Egypt, Ptolemaic period, 332–30 BC

This bronze statuette depicts a crouching ibis, wearing the Atef crown, which identifies it as Thoth, god of the moon, magic, wisdom, and science.
The long, slightly curved beak, and the circular eyes, which likely once held inlays of a different material, are now lost.
The legs are folded, with talons featuring finely detailed claws. The S-shaped neck flows into an elegantly curved body, the plumage of which has been cold-engraved.

Very good overall condition.
Height: 8 cm with the base.
