A French art deco perfume burner or night lamp in moulded-pressed glass made around 1926 and 1934 by Lorrain verrerie de belle étoile. The lamp is 8,3 inches (21,1 cm) high and the shade has a diameter of 5,67" (14,4 cm). It is unsigned. This model is represented in the old Lorrain catalogs. The lamp is in very good condition. The wrought iron mount has a nice deep-brown egg gloss patina. The shade has some small shallow chips on the inside of the bowl. They do not show with the shade in place. The lamp is rewired with cloth covered twisted cord. For the USA or Japan I placed an American candelabra base socket and US 2-prong plug.

On Lorrain:
In 1926 the famous Daum glass manufacturers opened a new plant in the village of Croismare near Luneville. A year later it started a production of pressed glassware. The new company 'Les Verreries d'Art Lorrain" merged with the one Daum already owned in this village "Les verreries de belle étoile". For these plants the Daum company employed the well known designer Pierre d'Avesn , who till that time worked for René Lalique, as its artistic director. d'Avesn stayed in office till the Lorrain branch closed down in 1934. Some prestigious Lorrain models were signed P.d'Avesn like the bowl of this lamp. After the bankruptcy of Lorrain d'Avesn became the director of the Hanots/Verlys glass manufactory of the Holophane company. See less
