Japanese lacquer is applied to the piece by award-winning master craftsman Sergej Kirilov of Studio Lacquer Decor. First, a layer called Ki-urushi is applied, with the following middle layers covered with a Kuro-nakanuri lacquer. The goal is to create a layer which is thick enough for the last finishing coat of the best quality black Urushi. Twelve Kuro-nakanuri layers are applied and sanded to a perfect surface. Roiro-urushi is applied and sanded smooth. Ten very thin protective layers of Kijomi-urushi are then applied (this process is called Suri-urushi). Finally, the bowl is polished by hand with wax. 22° 36° 48° are the three angles at which the bowl can sit: At 22 degrees, the bowl holds its contents modestly. It becomes less shy when tilted to 36 degrees. At 48 degrees, it flaunts its contents for the user to share. The 22° 36° 48° is a double-walled bowl and weighs 2kg. Numbered,Numbered See less
