An exceptional pair of ceramic bookends from the Art Deco period, circa 1930, likely by Walter Bosse (Goebel/Keramos).
These are probably in-house designs or early prototypes from the factory.
The faces of the two terriers were finished by hand and exhibit individual variations in expression. The unglazed bases are hand-marked by the manufacturer (including the name "Bertel" on one side and fine, production-related pencil notes on the other). This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
