Transparency, industrial manufacturing, and pop colours characterise this design chair, made from polished stainless steel mesh. The chair consists of a truncated cone base supporting a large hemispherical shell that cradles seven cushions. Among the first projects by danish designer verner panton, the peacock chair was born in 1959 as a piece intended to break away from traditional wooden craftsmanship. Using a lightweight, almost imperceptible steel wire mesh, panton creates an armchair that is both essential and original, consisting of a truncated conical base and a shell with cushions. When removed from the base, the shell can become a rocking chair. Playful and versatile, the peacock chair quickly became a symbol of experimentation and avant-garde design. Marking the centenary of the birth of the danish architect and designer, in 2026 the peacock chair is reissued for the karakter x cassina collection, faithfully following the original designs.
