An imposing solid oak notary's bookcase made in France in the late 19th century, circa 1880-1900.
This piece of professional furniture impresses with its balanced proportions, the quality of its oak, and the elegant simplicity of its Louis-Philippe-inspired design. Designed for professional use in a notary's office, law firm, government office, or large private library, it offers remarkable storage capacity while maintaining a refined visual presence.
The front features two large glazed doors framed by solid uprights and topped with a generous molded cornice. The original locks and wrought-iron hardware contribute to the piece's authentic character.
The interior has two small drawers for storing documents or writing instruments. A large drawer at the bottom completes the set. This configuration is typical of professional bookcases from the late 19th century.
The piece of furniture is made entirely of solid oak and disassembles into two parts, facilitating transport and assembly.
Several parts bear the marking "G.M.", engraved and then blackened on some of the crossbeams and stamped in ink on others. This mark appears to be a workshop or manufacturing mark.
Thanks to its clean lines, beautiful antique patina, and generous dimensions, this bookcase fits equally well in a classic interior or a contemporary setting, where it will be an ideal centerpiece for displaying books, collections, or objets d'art.
