Molded glass vase in black molded glass, "Tanzania," engraved Lalique, France.

Inspired by the elaborate techniques of her grandfather, Marie-Claude Lalique created a tall, slender-necked vase in black crystal. This creation reintroduces, for the first time in over 50 years, two techniques from the 1920s: mouth-blown glass decorated with hand-painted colored enamel. The sophistication of the hand-finished details makes the object as precious as a jewel. The effects of the fine satin finish on the exotic foliage that crowns the black crystal Tanzania are such that the leaves seem to extend beyond the central frieze of the vase, where crystal zebras gallop. A delicate white enamel highlights each zebra, bringing it to life with a vibrant sense of movement that surprises and delights the viewer.
