Pierre Maynadier & Lorrain Daum
A French art deco lamp in wrought iron and marble made by Pierre Maynadier made in the late 20s. Maynadier had a manufactory producing art deco lighting during the interbellum in Paris (25 rue Saint-Sébastien). Nowadays most known for his beautifully designed bronze fixtures Pierre Maynadier made lights with wrought iron mounts as well. In the late 30s they started to produce lighting in pressed brass in a modernist style. After the war the son took over and the grandson after him. The firm finally closed its doors in 1966.
The forged base holds a nice coloured shade in mottled glass produced by Lorrain. The lamp is 11,14 inches (28,3 cm) high and the shade has a diameter of 5,75 inches (14,6 cm). The lamp is in good condition. The shade is unsigned and has a chip on the inside of the rim. The lamp is rewired with new cloth covered twisted cord. For the States or Japan I placed a US candelabra base socket and US 2-prong plug.

On Lorrain: In 1926 the famous Daum glass manufacturers opened a new plant in the village of Croismare near Luneville. A year later it started a production of pressed glassware. The new company 'Les Verreries d'Art Lorrain" merged with the one Daum already owned in this village "Les verreries de belle étoile". For these plants the Daum company employed the well known designer Pierre d'Avesn , who till that time worked for René Lalique, as its artistic director. d'Avesn stayed in office till the Lorrain branch closed down in 1934. Some prestigious Lorrain models were signed P.d'Avesn like the bowl of this lamp. After the bankruptcy of Lorrain d'Avesn became the director of the Hanots/Verlys glass manufactory of the Holophane company.
