Adrien Mazoyer
A wonderful French art deco lamp made around 1925-1930. A wrought iron base holds a nice enameled ball shaped shade. Mazoyer made enameled glassware. The shade is signed A. Mazoyer France on the inside of the ball. The forged base is signed A. Mazoyer as well. Since Mazoyer was not a blacksmith he must have ordered this model base and asked the blacksmith to stamp a Mazoyer signature in the iron. The lamp is in very good condition. We can see several chips on the rim of the base of the shade. Invisible once the ball is placed in its iron fitter. The forged base has a nice ebony colored patina. The lamp is 12 inches (30,6 cm) high and 11,38" (28,9 cm) wide. The shade has a diameter of 5,5 inches (14 cm). The lamp is rewired with new cloth covered twisted cord. I placed an American candelabra base socket and US 2-prong plug.

Antonin Adrien Mazoyer (1887-1950) was born in the town of Creusot and moved to the city of Moulins in his childhood. In Moulins his father opened a shop trading porcelain and glassware. After following courses at an academy of Arts Adrien worked in Paris in the shop of Louis Damon 'Au Vase Etrusque' . A retailer selling Bohemian crystal and Daum vases. In 1919 after the first world war Mazoyer returned to Moulins and took over the shop of his father in the rue d'Allier street. And opened a workshop producing enameled glassware. Mainly vases and tableware but also a small line of table lamps. A thriving business in the 20s and 30s. With his wife running the shop in Moulins and an office in Paris in the rue des Jardiniers to supply Parisian retailers. Activity stopped in 1940. After the war the shop in the rue d'Allier was reopened by the wife of Adrien to sell the remaining stock but no new Mazoyer made items were issued. Adrien Mazoyer in poor health since the late 30s died in 1950. Mazoyer glassware is usually signed with the Mazoyer signature followed by a drawing of a windmill referring to the city of Moulins (which means Mills in French).
