E. Val et Cie.
A French 1925-1935 art deco night lamp by Eugène Val in silvered and enamelled brass. It holds a shade in coloured glass by Charles Schneider. The small lamp stands on three feet representing spotted longhorn beetles (leptura maculata).
E. Val was a silversmith with his shop at 218 rue du Feaubourg Saint-Martin.
The mounting of the lamp is signed with the usual Val signature. The lamp is in excellent condition. Of course the silver plating turns black over the years. The lamp is 6,06 inches (15,4 cm) high. And some 4,13"(10,5 cm) wide. It comes newly wired with stylish cotton covered twisted cord and an American candelabra base socket.
Shipping to the USA: I send my parcels with Dutch post PostNL - incoterm DDP (delivered duty paid) so no additional duties or tariffs for the receiver. Parcels are distributed in the States by USPS. Free shipoping offered.

In 1890 Eugène Val took over maisson Effler. The company E. Val et Cie. sold vases tableware trinklets and small lamps in ceramic and glass. And often added silver plated brass mounts. Until 1914 most VAL signed pieces done in art nouveau style were produced by the glass factories of Legras, Saint-Denis or Patin. After the first world war Val started to use Bohemian glass often orange coloured. Around 1925 onwards Val also used shades by Charles Schneider for its night and table lamps. In 1928 Eugène Val registered the brand d'Argyl. And sold d'Argyl France signed vases in both ceramics and glass. In 1929 Eugène Val together with the ceramists Louis Dage founded the company la Faïencerie d'Art d'Antony. In 1933 Eugène retired and Louis Dage became the director of the company E. Val et cie. It closed down in 1940.
We often see information that Val was linked to the company of Daum. This is a misunderstanding. The company of Eugène Val had nothing to do with the Daum branch Verreries d'Art Lorrain. I never saw a Val signed piece with Daum made glass. Also in the old Val product catalogs is no Daum to be found.
