Historical context: small, high-legged side and pedestal tables of this type served as freestanding display surfaces for vases, lamps, plants, or decorative objects in living rooms and parlors. The curved design is based on the louis xv style of the 18th century, which was revived in reproductions during the 20th century. Marble tops were valued on such furniture for their durable, prestigious surface. The lower shelf increased the usable area and was common in display furniture of this size. Features: loosely resting, reddish marble top with a breccia-like veining, removable. Second shelf between the legs, formally integrated into the curved lines. Design: louis xv style with curved, tapered legs, carved volute and leaf motifs at the base of the legs, and square cartouches at the transition to the apron.
