subject and style: an imposing rectangular casket with a curved lid surmounted by an elegant spinning top knob. The sides are embellished with massive ring handles with embossed lion heads, while the base rests on four proud paw-shaped feet. The rim is adorned with a refined cord decoration, and the lid is engraved with an elegant noble monogram "b g m."

material and finish: the inkwell is forged from solid, heavy silver-plated metal by the historic anglo-saxon manufacturer w.t. & co. (a trademark traceable to the renowned silversmith walter trickett & co. Of sheffield).
