Charles Schneider - Le Verre Français
A 1930s French art deco pendant light in wrought iron with a nice Schneider Le Verre Français bowl in transparent and orange coloured acid-engraved glass. A name for this model is not known. According to the book 'Schneider maître verrier: Charder le verre Français' by Gérard Bertrand, this decoration was designed between 1928 and 1930. I show a picture of page 150 from this book. The pendant has a total height of 26,2 inches (66,5 cm) and the shade has a diameter of 17.7 inches (45 cm).
The bowl is signed Le Verre Français on the rim. It is held by the original Schneider fixture in wrought iron. Schneider employed a blacksmith and had his own forge on his compound in Epinay France. Where wrought iron mounts for vases were made as well as fixtures for night lamps perfume burners and chandeliers. The typical shape of the Schneider forged iron pieces is easy to recognize.
The pendant light is in very good condition. The iron mount has a nice patina. We can see one small chip on the rim of the bowl. It has a mat surface as mat as the acid engraved parts of the shade. The chandelier is rewired with three American candelabra base sockets.
