The exterior lacquer has aged into a deep, uneven patina consistent with decades of handling, while the unfinished interior boards show the raw pine or elm construction typical of pieces built for daily use rather than display. The joinery follows traditional mortise-and-tenon construction, visible at the case corners, and the cabinet stands on a simple recessed-leg base — a form associated with Shanxi and Northern Chinese armoires of the 19th century. Brass ring pulls on the drawers appear original to the piece.

Condition is fair: the top left corner shows a chip with exposed raw wood beneath the lacquer, and the overall finish carries surface wear, scuffing, and color variation consistent with its age — none of which affects structural integrity.
